Woodworking plans for beginners: an honest look at Ted's library

The short answer

Ted's Woodworking is a large downloadable library of woodworking plans, sold through ClickBank. Each plan comes with step-by-step instructions, a cut list, a materials list and drawings, according to the vendor.

It makes sense if you want a big catalog of beginner projects in one searchable place and plan to build more than a handful of them. If you only need one specific plan, a single paid plan or a free one may serve you better.

This page summarizes what the vendor's sales page says as of November 2026. I don't claim to have built every plan. Offer details can change, so the official order page is the final word.

What you get

  • Access to 16,000+ plans in a members area you can search by keyword and filter by category and difficulty.
  • New plans added every month, with no recurring fee on the one-time option.

  • Bonuses: a DWG/CAD plan viewer, 150+ woodworking videos, a guide to starting a woodworking business, and a 200-page set of woodworking guides.
  • An option to receive everything on physical media, for an extra shipping fee.

What it costs

$67, one time

That's the lifetime-access price on the sales page in November 2026. The vendor says a $39/month membership is replacing it, so check the price on the order page before you pay.

Refunds: the vendor offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, and the order is processed by ClickBank.

The sales page says the one-time price may end soon. Treat that as the vendor's marketing, not a reason to rush. The refund window is what actually protects you.

Is it a good fit for you?

Probably yes, if you

  • are new to woodworking and want projects with full cut lists
  • plan to build several projects over the next year
  • work in a small space with basic tools
  • like having outdoor, furniture and shop projects in one place

Before your first build: a beginner checklist

Whether or not you buy any plans, these steps save lumber and weekends.

  1. Pick the project before you browse. Start small: a step stool, a planter box or a wall shelf. A finished small piece teaches more than a half-built big one.

  2. Match the plan to the tools you own. The vendor says most of its plans need a table saw, a drill, clamps and a sander. If you're missing one, choose a plan that works around it rather than buying tools first.

  3. Check real lumber sizes. A 2x4 actually measures about 1.5 by 3.5 inches. Make sure the plan's cut list uses actual dimensions.

  4. Buy a little extra wood. Adding 10 to 15 percent to the materials list covers a miscut without a second trip to the store.

  5. Dry-fit before you glue. Assemble everything without glue or screws first, so you catch a bad cut while it's still easy to fix.
